The levels of the routes are moderate, ranging from 6a, with some 6b up to 6c. The rock is in good condition, offering climbers a variety of routes and difficulties, making it perfect for an unforgettable experience!

Accessible outside of the snow season and depending on weather conditions. Please check in advance with the Aulps Valley Tourist Office to know the current access conditions. Recommended practice periods: spring – summer – autumn.

The hiking and trail route map is available in paper form at the Aulps Valley Tourist Office and at the ticket counters of the Saint Jean d’Aulps and Chèvrerie (Bellevaux) ski lifts.

There are two entry points: Saint Jean d’Aulps, which allows you to connect to the Portes du Soleil (via shuttle), and La Chèvrerie (Bellevaux), in the Brevon Valley.

Via Ferrata

Halfway between hiking and climbing, a via ferrata is a high-altitude course where you navigate on equipped cliffs with cables, rungs, ladders, and sometimes monkey bridges or walkways!

At the Rocher de la Chaux – le Bas-Thex, experts can venture into the two routes offered.

The Eye Route :

The Eye Route, which extends over approximately 270 meters, is one of the most challenging in France.

Two escape routes allow access to the Tête de l’Éléphant itinerary. Expect about 1.5 hours of effort, with an incredible panorama overlooking the village of Saint Jean d’Aulps, the Roc d’Enfer ski area, and even Mont Blanc. The return is through the woods via the marked Outteaux path.

Difficulty: ED (Élevée – High)
Short rope mandatory and belaying highly recommended.

The Elephant's Head Route:

The Elephant’s Head Route is an aerial itinerary that weaves through a succession of steep walls, some of which are overhanging.

This unforgettable experience includes crossing the Saint Guérin Bridge, which is just 10 cm wide. Expect to invest about 1 hour and 30 minutes of effort. The return is through the woods via the marked Outteaux trail.

Difficulty: D+
Safety Gear: A short rope is mandatory, and harnessing is strongly recommended.
